The next morning, I shared the plan with Eddie. As soon as we finished with the rabbits, I texted Dad that we were biking to the convenience store “for candy.” We bought everything we needed to make slime and put it all in the fort.

“Where are the stink bombs?” he asked.

“In the back of one of my desk drawers,” I told him. “As long as you don’t break the shell, they don’t smell.”

“Maybe we should try one, just in case.”

“No, better save them. We need as big of a stink as possible. Tommy’s working on the music. He’s going to download some opera lady singing. I’ll use my mom’s Bluetooth speaker.”

Eddie nodded. “Are you sure we can’t wear masks?”

“The twins said we have to look them in the face. But just think—in a few days THE ATTIC OF DOOM will be ghost free.”

“We can call it THE ATTIC OF DUDES,” Eddie said.

I liked the sound of that. But it was still a big risk. And I wasn’t just risking my own life. Tommy and Eddie were on the line, too. What if when we went back to the Fourth of July party, we had ghosts walking around in our bodies?
